Does My Hyundai Need Battery Service?

August 18th, 2021 by

There’s nothing worse than getting in your car, ready to start your next journey, and your car won’t start. You turn the key or push the button, and nothing happens. Now what? You’ll either have to find someone to jumpstart your vehicle or make other transportation plans. Either way, you’re stuck with readjusting your traveling plans. How can you avoid this problem? By having your car’s battery routinely serviced and replaced as needed.

When Does my Car’s Battery Need to be Replaced?

Every car’s battery will last at a different rate. While most car batteries include a generalization of how long the battery will last, the lifetime will vary depending on a number of situations and factors. These are broken down into four key factors: vibration, extreme temperatures, accidental draining, and time.

  1. Vibration

As you drive your Hyundai throughout Fall River, Warwick, RI, or beyond, the battery will vibrate. While general car vibration can’t be helped, you can minimalize the amount of vibration with special hold-down hardware. The vibration will eventually cause the inner parts of the battery to break down and will loosen any holds.

  2. Extreme Temperatures

Extreme heat and cold will affect the life of any battery, including your car’s. The heat or cold will increase the battery degradation, making your battery drain faster. You can combat these extreme temperatures with a heat shield over the battery.

  3. Accidental Draining

Have you ever forgotten to turn off an interior light? Did you shut the door, but the seat belt stopped it, and it was open all night? Is there something that’s draining your car’s battery without you knowing? Whatever the case may be, your battery can be drained unexpectedly.

  4. Time

Every battery has a finite lifespan. Over time, the battery will begin to deteriorate, whether it’s being used or sitting in one spot for an extended period of time.

Signs That Your Car’s Battery Needs to Be Replaced

Before you’re left stranded with a dead battery, your car will start to show you signs that the battery needs to be replaced. These include:

  • Starter Cranks Slowly – If you go to start your car in the morning and it takes it a while to turn over, your battery is on its way out.
  • Dim Interior Lights – Do the lights on the inside of your car seem dimmer to you? This could be because your battery doesn’t have as much of a charge.
  • Battery/Charging Warning Light – If you notice a warning light that looks like a battery, you’ll want to have your battery serviced or replaced soon.
  • Jump Start – If your car has needed a jump, it’s time to have your battery replaced.
