History
Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Founded by Puritan colonists in 1630, Boston soon became the cultural and economic hub of the new colonies and continued to play a major role throughout American history, from the American Revolution to anti-slavery movements during the Civil War.
Boston was also the center of the American industrial revolution in the early 20th century. As factory work started to decline late in the century, Boston instead made a name for itself in biotechnology, medicine, and education.
